GYNOSTEMMA, JIAOGULAN, MIRACLE GRASS
This powerful adaptogen is amazing tonic, easily earning it nickname of magic grass or miracle grass. It is gentle on the system, yet produces profound effects promoting homeostasis. Plus, the taste is DELICIOUS. It is alike, yet better tasting (even sweeter) than green tea in my opinion, and with all its amazing benefits, it’s a easy MUST HAVE daily drink.

The Discovery of the Most Potent Adaptogen on the Planet
It was discovered in the late 60?s. They were doing some research, surveying in China, and they found a province, a certain area that had extremely low rates of cancer, heart disease, or other degenerative illnesses. There was also a concentrated demographic group of people living to be 90 or 100 years old. So they started talking to them and they found out that these people drank this stuff that they called miracle grass. Everyone in that province swore by it as a virtual cure-all. The people sought this plant and viewed it as the ultimate substance. The scientists took it back to the lab and they started researching and studying it, and they found out it has all these adaptogenic properties and all these amazing properties on the body. It has 20 years of scientific research to back up all of its claims, of which there’s a lot. That’s where most of its information came from, because there wasn’t much written record of it being used other than just oral history that had been passed down in the areas where the people were consuming it.
Around the same time, they were studying gynostemma for other reasons. Because it is kind of sweet, they were looking for chemicals to pull out of it to make some sort of natural sugar substitute. So through this research, they discovered that gynostemma has 82 different adaptogenic phytochemicals, which are the chemicals that are in ginseng, that are in astragalus, that give it its magic. The cool thing is that gynostemma has about 8 chemicals in it that are identical to that of ginseng. To realize that gynostemma is very inexpensive, and ginseng is much, much more than that, it is pretty amazing. The gynostemma is much more adaptogenic, much more balanced, much more tolerated, and pretty much anyone in any situation can take it because it is so gentle and so balancing an adaptogen.
CHEAP, ACCESSIBLE, AND POTENT (TOO GOOD- TOOOO TRUE)
Gynostemma is also called jiaogulan and miracle grass or magic grass. This is an herb that is an amazing tonic, an amazing adaptogen, and is one of the top tonic herbs on the planet. But it has only really been discovered, actually, within the last thirty years, and it is becoming a little bit well known in the west, but it is still relatively unheard of, which is a shame because it is so powerful and it’s so cheap, and it’s so accessible. Best of all, it’s so easy to use! Gynostemma is a three-treasure tonic. It nourishes jing, chi and shen. It nourishes all five organs, and it tastes pretty sweet. It’s not sugary, but has a sweet flavor with slightly bitter overtones. It is a leaf of a plant, which is why it’s called like miracle grass.
In many ways, gynostemma is superior to a lot of the other adaptogenic herbs because it contains the widest array of adaptogenic substances ever found in any plant. I’ll repeat that because it’s so amazing and I kind of glazed over it when I first read it and heard about it, but basically gynostemma contains 82-88 different adaptogenic chemicals called saponins, and this is more than any other plants that’s ever been discovered in nature. Basically, this means that it’s the top adaptogen on the planet as far as balancing all the systems in our body, which is pretty amazing.
When people start taking it, they definitely notice digestion improves, circulation improves, and they just feel better, everything in the body gets better. The functioning of all of the organs improves while reaching a higher level of homeostasis, because gynostemma is such an intelligent adaptogen. Remember that adaptogens go in and sense what’s happening in the body, they sense the deficiencies, they sense the imbalances and they correct them. Depending on how off balance you are, you may see results immediately.
Gynostemma is a really powerful anti-inflammatory. Inflammation in the body is a huge leak of energy, it is a huge leak of jing, and if we can keep inflammation down then obviously we’ll have more energy because our body won’t have to spend time battling inflammation. For those of us who are really active, we’re going to build up some inflammation no matter what, and gynostemma is excellent to aid in keeping that inflammation down.
Rejuvenating and Grounding
Gynostemma is a great aid in helping on both ends of working out, so it can help you work out better, improving oxygen utilization, improving breathing, opening up the lungs, improving metabolism, but also helping out with recovery, so helping the body to recuperate and rejuvenate after the workout and heal faster which is pretty amazing. It is also calming because it works on the shen. It works on the nervous system, and it is such a powerful adaptogen. It’s just calming, soothing, balancing, and really just takes the edge off so you can just feel calm and present and in the moment. It’s great to take before bed if you need to just relax and unwind if you’ve had a really stressful day or been working a lot and burning the candle on both ends. If you need something to just help you kind of chill out, it can do that, but the interesting thing is that since it is a potent adaptogen, you can take it first thing in the morning and it will help give you energy and help get you going for the day which is very unique and very interesting for an herb to be able to do both, for it to be you know, kind of stimulating but also calming at the same time.
What is Nuclear Factor Kappa B? -> Why Gynostemma is ANTI-AGING!
One specific saponin from gynostemma, Gypenoside XLIX, has been demonstrated to counteract the deleterious effects of Nuclear Factor Kappa B (NFkB), the substance at the root of all inflammation in all vertebrates and involved in most cell death in animals. Reducing the activity of Nuclear Factor Kappa B should be one of the goals of any longevity, anti-aging program. This compound promotes aging and is at the center of all research into life extension. Gynostemma’s broad reputation as a longevity herb is certainly based on this ability to quell Nuclear Factor Kappa B.

Does gynostemma increase heart rate?
No, in fact athletes who use a heart rate monitor have seen a lower heart rate, when taking gynostemma during exercise than with out taking gynostemma. Research has shown that after taking gynostemma, cardiac output increased mainly through increase in stroke volume, not through increase in heart rate. The means the heart contracts more powerfully, and hence works more efficiently.*
How long do these effects last?
During non training or non exercise, four hours. During medium intensity training, three hours. During high intensity training, two hours.*
