Product Spotlight: Goji Berry

Goji berries, also known as Wolf berries, or their botanical name, Lycium Barbarium, are a delicious way to incorporate a yin building food into your diet and to protect vital energies.

Because yin and yang are intertwined and interdependent of each other, nourishment of yin leads to preservation of the yang. In other words, a well oiled car enables the engine to accelerate faster and well for longer. In regards to your body this translates to more energy and increased metabolic function!

The delicate, bittersweet flavor of Goji berries is due to high amounts of polysaccharides, a complex carbohydrate which acts as a slow burning, sustainable form of energy, that support the brain and cognitive health, as well as immune function.

Goji berries are the quintessential winter herb. A complete protein, high in minerals, and nourishing to the blood and yin. They act as a natural adaptogen keeping our nervous system insulated so that the natural stresses of daily life do not become overwhelming.

Youth and longevity are highly correlated with the Chinese medicinal concept of Yin. As we age, our bodies become more dry, our skin less supple, and our nails more frail. We may require lip balm to prevent our lips from cracking, and higher level eye prescriptions for glasses and contacts.

As women enter menopause they experience night sweats and hot flashes. According to Chinese medicine, this is due to their depletion of yin which keeps their vital yang from rising and escaping through night sweats and hot flashes.

Yin is the oil to our machine. It keeps our joints lubricated, our hair shiny, our skin soft, our nails strong, and areas of the body that need to be moist from becoming dry.

When people lack yin they become irritable and impatient, they may have ringing in the ears, dry eyes, lips, and throat.  They may have cracks in their tongue, and they can often get headaches and have trouble sleeping well.

Nutritional Makeup of Goji berries:

It’s no wonder why the ancient Chinese have used this super food for thousands of years and still utilize it as one of the most popular beauty and longevity herbs of all time!
